I have recently begun to experiment with brass etching. It's a very similar technique as to when I etch with silver, but I have felt freer to explore and try new things. As a result I have been playing with different hammered textures, applying them before and after etching the brass. the brass pieces are then finished off with sterling findings and semi-precious stones, in this case labradorite. Opal is an inspiring stone which is said to enhance imagination, creativity and memory. It can intensify emotions and release inhibitions, promoting freedom and independence. My favorite types to work with are Pink Opal and Peruvian Opal.
Fosters spiritual growth, eases frustration, brings truth and clarity...this deep blue stone with pyrite inclusions has been valued for many thousands of years taking the place of currency the ancient city of Ur. It was the secret of the blue in the ultramarine pigment used in paintings up until the nineteenth century.
