Bio

After
studying painting and drawing at the Ontario College of Art and Design
(2006-2008) Donna moved on to study jewellery, earning Dean's List
standings at George Brown College (2008/09). Following her technical
training, she attended private lessons and open studio at Nanopod
Hybrid Studio (2009/10) in Toronto allowing her to explore new
techniques more freely.
Donna continues to explore her creativity through a number of mediums, but is most intrigued by the idea of jewellery as wearable art. She especially enjoys seeking out materials in the most unsuspecting places, using jewellery and objects of the past combined with semi-precious stones to create new and interesting one of a kind pieces. Her hand fabricated metal work, primarily sterling silver, illustrates an affinity toward and appreciation for nature. Most recently Donna has been experimenting in brass, combining textures with acid etching. This process of experimental discovery is the driving force behind her work.
Donna is committed to using greener alternatives whenever possible. She is constantly researching and experimenting so that her work has the lowest environmental impact. In her studio, all metal scraps are melted down and reused, firescoff is used as flux eliminating the use of boric acid, and a simple pickle solution of vinegar and salt replaces the traditional sulphuric acid and sodium bisulphate.
After running the studio/gallery The Artist's Den for the last couple years, Donna works form her home studio in downtown Collingwood where she designs, fabricates and sells her jewellery. For more information visit www.theartistsden.ca
