Important tips for caring for your jewellery.
Storage: Silver pieces are best kept in a zip lock bag to prevent tarnishing. Store all jewellery in a safe place where it won't get squished or tangled. Wear: Wear your jewellery for the appropriate activities. Sports, swimming and showering are not recommended for all materials. Apply cream, hairspray and make-up prior to jewellery. Cleaning: There are a few options. If you are not sure which one is suitable for your piece, just ask. 1. For sterling silver or silver plated pieces, gently buff with a polishing cloth. 2. Be environmentally friendly and avoid silver polish. Use a simple baking soda & water paste to gently clean sterling silver jewellery. Apply this paste with a soft toothbrush. 3. For hard to reach areas of sterling silver, such as the interior of chain links, use a solution of; 1 Tbs salt 1 Tbs baking soda 1 Tbs dish soap 1 Cup boiling water 1 container lined with aluminum foil (or just use an aluminum mini pie plate) Place the sterling silver in the solution, ensure the silver is in contact with the aluminum. Wait 1-2 minutes and remove. This recipe works great, but is not recommended for pieces with stones. Work in a well ventilated space as this cleaning process gives off an odour of sulphur. |
